What is this?

Yoruba culture is an ancient intergenerational tradition that remains vibrant today. It is polytheistic, meaning it recognizes a plurality of deities, and its spiritual beliefs have been passed down orally and through music, storytelling and art. It is centralized around kinship and its pantheistic cosmology is reflected in its social and political organizations. Expressed deeply in its music and language, Yoruba culture is embodied through art, dance, ceremonies, rituals, and communal relationships. It is a spiritual way of life, with values and practices uniquely devoted to honoring the dead, ceremonial occasions and relationships within the family, the community and in the natural world. It is a pathway for harnessing creative energy which speaks to the Yoruba proverb, "Àgbà yẹ́ owó ti ọmọ yè kú" - "One's character is what one inherits from one's family."
